Waverly Avenue Bridge Update

by Cindy Goldstein -

Construction activities continue on the Waverly Avenue Bridge Replacement Project undertaken by the Town of Mamaroneck.  Closed for approximately one year, the bridge project previously expected to be completed at the end of this month is expected to continue until November 21st.  See Latest Project Update HERE

The start of the project was delayed when then Village Manager Jerry Barberio revoked a previously issued work permit to demand the Town of Mamaroneck reimburse the Village for more than $700,000 of anticipated police overtime for traffic control during construction. See previous article HERE

Although the bridge is the responsibility of the Town of Mamaroneck, it is located within the borders of the Village of Mamaroneck.  The $4.54 million project is funded primarily with grant money and was designed to address public safety and flood mitigation consistent with the Army Corps of Engineers flood plan for the Village.

Town of Mamaroneck Supervisor Jane Elkind Eney said, “The Town continues to work with our contractor to find time savings toward completion, recognizing the importance of the work being done safely and in accordance with all design and safety specifications.  The Town wants to thank the community for their patience while we complete this critical project.”
