Sound Seafood Market & Sushi Brings Fresh Flavors to the Community

by Marina Kiriakou -

A new seafood retail store has opened its doors in Mamaroneck, bringing a commitment to fresh, high-quality seafood along with a variety of culinary offerings.  Husband-and-wife team Becky Lusk and Wayne Ivines are excited to share their lifelong dreams with the community, merging Ivines’ extensive experience in the seafood industry with Lusk’s strong local connections.

Ivines, who grew up on Long Island, has been immersed in the seafood business since he was 13, working at his uncle's seafood market for over 20 years.  The couple met on Long Island, where Ivines first expressed his desire to open his own seafood store—a dream they have now realized together in Mamaroneck.

At the heart of their business is a dedication to sourcing only the freshest seafood.  Ivines personally shops at the Fulton Fish Market in the Bronx six days a week to ensure customers receive the finest products available.  "My husband goes to the market just about every night, whether it's one in the morning or four, depending on what he needs to pick up,” Lusk shared.

The new store offers an impressive range of products beyond fresh seafood.  Customers can enjoy made-to-order sushi, prepared foods, hot menu items, and catering services.  The couple has also positioned the store to cater to local high school students.  Healthy options like poke bowls and sushi have become popular lunchtime choices.

Lusk and Ivines pride themselves on providing a personalized experience for their customers. "People will call and say, 'We want this for dinner tonight for six people.' We’ll prepare servings for them, including vegetables and sides," Lusk explained.  “Every interaction is an opportunity to build a sense of community,” she added.  Lusk’s deep roots in the area span three generations, including her parents and their 6- and 9-year-old children who attend local schools.

Sound Seafood offers free delivery within the local area.  It has partnered with GrubHub for online ordering, making it easy for customers to enjoy fresh seafood and prepared meals from home.

Looking ahead, the couple plans to expand their business by obtaining a wholesale license and enhancing their catering services, including beach bakes—a perfect addition for summer gatherings.

With a strong focus on quality and community engagement, Sound Seafood is poised to make a lasting impact in Mamaroneck.  For those seeking a fresh perspective on seafood shopping, visit Sound Seafood Market & Sushi at 1137 West Boston Post Road (across from Starbucks).  Hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM; Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM.
