Gay Meighan Corning, 69, of Mamaroneck, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, March 23, 2025.

Born in Yonkers, NY to Hunter and Miriam Meighan, Gay graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1973. Â She earned an associate's degree in 1975 from Centenary University and went on to have a successful career managing several retail stores throughout Westchester County, where she built lasting and meaningful relationships and fostered a genuine sense of community. Â She maintained many of these friendships throughout her entire life.

Gay had a special way of making people feel valued and appreciated, no matter the situation. Her grace, beauty, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. Â She was truly one of the kindest, most caring people and was known to go out of her way to make sure everyone in her path was fed, taken care of, and loved.

When not focused on caring for her family and friends, Gay found immense joy in spending time on the Long Island Sound. Â An avid beach goer, if the sun was shining, she was there, embracing every moment with her beautiful smile.

Gay had a deep love of her extensive collection of houseplants, finding joy in nurturing both the outdoors and her indoor green space. Â Her home was always filled with vibrant plants, a testament to their patience, dedication, and nurturing spirit.

Gay was predeceased by her parents, Hunter in 2008 and Miriam Meighan in 2017. Â She is survived by her loving children, Sean Corning, Russell Corning, and Alyssa Corning; her beloved cat, Abigail; her ex-husband, John Corning, her sisters, Marcia Abbott and Sasha Laing, as well as her nieces Mira Laing and Helena Abbott, and her nephews Ian and Malcolm Abbott. Â Gay had no human grandchildren, but had three adoring grand-dogs, Jerry, Sammy and Hazel that she cherished deeply. Â She always had a biscuit on hand.

Phyllis June Daly passed away on March 22, 2025 in her home in Mamaroneck, NY. June was 102 years old, born Phyllis June Carothers in Berkeley, California on June 20, 1922 the first daughter of Phyllis Victoria Carothers (nee Caston, Kieszkiewicz) and Jesse Grant Carothers.June lived in Berkeley and Los Angeles as a child and in Stamford, CT and New York City as a young woman.  She was a dancer at the Roxy Theatre and the photographer at the Stork Club, both in Manhattan.
June and Dr. Charles C. Daly, Ed. PhD were married in 1943.  While Charlie served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, June served in the Women’s Land Army working on a farm on Long Island.June and Charlie traveled the USA extensively, coast to coast, with children in tow.  Summer months found the family living in a cabin in Medomak, Maine overlooking the woods and rocky shore of Greenland Cove.June was an avid bridge player and worked as a medical lab technician.  Later in life June was a quilter, sewing prize winning quilts in heirloom, contemporary and original patterns.June was predeceased by her daughter Susan Marie, her husband Dr. Charles C. Daly, and her sister Dorothy Ann Carothers.
Charlie and June had five children. She is survived by her son Owen (Suzin), her son Douglas, (Irene), her daughter Christina (Arthur), her daughter Deborah (John), and grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie, Kevin, and Alexander. Â June is also survived by her cousin Joan Scott.

Antonio Sommella, a long-time Mamaroneck resident, passed away Monday March 17th. He was 80. Born February 27, 1945, in San Lupo, Italy to Pasquale and Luisa Sommella. Â Antonio was a fixture in the Mamaroneck community; he could always be seen walking down Mamaroneck Avenue socializing with everyone in town. Â For many years he worked in maintenance at Iona College in New Rochelle. Â He is survived by his loving brother Giuseppe, and sister-in-law Teresa, as well as his nephews: Pasquale (wife Caroline) and Davide (wife Lisa and daughter Isla).Â

Corinne Mastruzzi, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Mamaroneck, NY surrounded by loved ones on March 16, 2025. Â Corinne was born on February 18, 1931, in the Bronx, to Rose and Adam Acocelli. Â She was the oldest of their two daughters. Â In addition to her parents, Corinne was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, with whom she shared 62 years of wedded bliss.

Corinne graduated from Walton High School in Bronx, NY and subsequently worked in the garment industry.  As an adult, she was employed as a teacher’s aide at Mamaroneck Avenue School in Mamaroneck.  Wanting to pursue a career as a teacher, Corinne attended the College of New Rochelle, earning a BA in Education in 1974, and Manhattan College, earning an MS Ed in Administration in 1977.  She ultimately taught at Mamaroneck Avenue School for 22 years, spending the majority of her lifework educating sixth graders.

Corinne’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.  She was affectionately known as Grammy to her grandchildren, Gigi to her great-grandchildren, and Aunt Rene to her nieces and nephews.  She is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda Oliverio (Salvatore), beloved grandchildren, Kristin Santavicca (Nick), Robbie (Sofia), Matt (Caitlin), and Ali Catanzaro (Gianmattia), adored great-grandchildren, Emma, Courtney, and Matthew, loving sister, Joan, and a circle of family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Veronica Perito, 1935-2025, was the final surviving child of eight, born in the Bronx to Theresa (née Kobetic) and George Sakoske, who emigrated to America in 1922.  Ronnie, as she was known to her friends, graduated from EF Bellows, in Mamaroneck, in 1955.  She was popular among her classmates, played a mean game of basketball and served as class secretary, all while working after school at Macy’s in White Plains.  Ronnie went on to become a secretary at Pure Foods Company in Mamaroneck, AT&T, and others, all while raising her family, and before becoming a Sales Assistant to Investment Executives at Drexel Burnham Lambert, which was superseded by Smith Barney, before retiring in 2002.  She volunteered at United Hospital in Port Chester as well as the Osborn Home in Rye for many years.  She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Perito and Laurie Perito (Michael Thompson), her grandchildren Xavier Perito, Christina Small (née McLaughlin) and Ryan McLaughlin, as well as her niece and nephew Susan Harris and George Harris (Shannon).  She was predeceased by her eldest daughter Karen Perito McLaughlin (1993), as well as her ex-husband Jay James Perito (1997), and later partner Ralph Micalizzi (2010).  Ronnie had a millionaire’s mind, lived practically, and built a legacy, which was important to her as a child who grew up in the post-Depression era.  She always tried to help her family members.  She was a longtime member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Harrison as well as the Harrison Senior Citizens Center for about 25 years, where she liked to play bingo and dominoes.  Ronnie will be remembered for many things, especially her delicious Slavic Christmas cookies she lovingly made every holiday season and gifted to friends and associates who raved about them.
