Carol R. Blucher, 88, a lifetime resident of Mamaroneck, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, in Evanston, IL, after a period of declining health. She was the daughter of Erna and Fred Rubin, who predeceased her. Mrs. Blucher was a 1953 graduate of Mamaroneck High School and later of Centenary Junior College in Hackettstown, NJ. After college she returned to Mamaroneck to raise her family.
She was the owner and founder of Carol R. Blucher Secretarial Services providing bookkeeping and organizational services to clients throughout Westchester for more than 50 years.
Her lifelong commitment to Hadassah began at the first meeting of the Mamaroneck Young Women's group in the early 1960s and she was honored for her service as Woman of the Year in 2016. She also chaired the Hadassah Youth Aliyah for over 30 years.
In 1975 she married Robert H. Blucher, who was the love of her life. Together they enjoyed travelling, golf, dancing and spending time with family. Following his passing in 1993, she continued to travel on her own, visiting 59 countries. She also took care of many plants and collected paperweights.
Mrs. Blucher was an active volunteer, assisting the Larchmont Mamaroneck Food Pantry, Family Services of Westchester, and other organizations. She also knitted hundreds of caps for hospitals and clothing drives.
She is survived by daughters Dianne Averill (Michael Rizzo), Susan Leven (Polly Hemstock), Linda Hall (David Mathers), stepchildren Joanne Throne (Anselmo Lastra), Ronald Blucher, and step grandchildren Jake Throne, Jason Blucher and Sarah Blucher. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert S. Rubin.
