Murphy is OUT/Torres is IN

Mamaroneck Observer

After a long and hard fought campaign Sharon Torres defeated Mayor Tom Murphy last night with Westchester County reporting the unofficial results. Torres received 52% of the votes and Murphy received 48%. Total ballots cast (early voting, absentee and election day) were 3,715. Murphy was running for his fourth two-year term as Mayor.

Trustee Nora Lucas defeated challenger Mallory Chinn 81% to 19% for another two-year term.

Torres, running on the Building Bridges ballot line, built a coalition of Democrats, Republicans and non-affiliated voters and promised transparency and civility.

The ballot proposition to extend the terms of Village officials from 2 years to 4 years and only hold elections in even years was defeated: 64% voted “no” and 36% voted “yes.” A total of 3,517 votes were cast.
